Course: Painter X

(Part of Digital Arts trac)

Instructor: Ron Lemen

This series gives thorough tour of Corel’s digital painting software program, Painter X. Students learn how to utilize and manipulate all of the tools offered, including the mixing palette, color wheel, brushes, eyedropper, clone brush, and vector tools. The student is also shown how to customize the program to their individual needs. A demonstration of real life media and paper is shown to compare Corel’s digital versions found in the program. These media can be digitally altered to manipulate size, opacity, grain, saturation, jitter, and bleed within the program, giving more control than the standard pen on paper. See how to use hardware such as a Wacom tablet or special pen tool. Finally, a full portrait is digitally painted.

I have learned more from a few minutes of Ron's tutorials on drawing fundamentals than I have from scrounging around on the internet for good tips on random forums. The man is very knowledgeable and a real artist. He is a great asset to tap for any self-taught artist-to-be.

Ron is terrific, content is really well done. The only drawback to me is that there are no resource materials to use in following along; would love the photography files posted in the resource section.

Otherwise terrific!

Ron is a great teacher and I enjoyed the Painter tutorials.

I just need more. I'm working on a project in Painter instead of Photoshop, which I'm very familiar with. Painter is new for me and I'm getting bogged down with selection issues.

Simple things like filling a selection, resizing part of drawing, etc. take me wild goose chases.

Will there be more tutorials on Painter X basics? I hope so.

Thanks,

Eddie

I think the instructions are well presented and very informative in what they covered, however I would love also to see an instructional demonstration by Ron on cloneing techneques from a photograph that would make it into a realistic looking painting.
